Does anyone have a list of materials needed to assemble the retrieving table that Rick and Ronnie use in the videos and seminars?

Thanks,

There isn't really a master list of materials. It depends on the length of table you decide to build. If you want, I can post some pics of the table I have...Rick built it for me...and you can figure out from those what you want to build. The important thing is to have the top cable tight, and have it braced at the bottom so it won't pull the uprights in. Coated cable works best, and get a high quality pulley so it slides smoothly. Ideal width of the table is roughly two feet.

Sharon,

Thanks for replying to my post. I would greatly appreciate it if you could post some good pics of the table. I have a good view from the huntsmith videos. The angles I need most are of the posts on the sides, and details of the bottom. With the help of your pics and the videos I have I should have it covered.

Thanks,

RD

Ryan, that's how the collar attaches to the post. Working with so many dogs, I need to adjust the collar up and down. The posts are 2" steel square stock, and I had a sleeve made for each post out of 2 1/2" square stock with a set screw. This way, a slim collar fits in, and the allen wrench (which usually hangs under the table) is used to loosen and tighten as I adjust for different sized dogs.

I don't know how to get my pictures directly on the topic page; however I did upload some of my training table on my album. I believe you can view my album without any problem.

This table is easy to build; takes about 3 hours; uses treated lumber only. You need (2) 4 x 4 post 8' ... you need (6) 2 x 6 and you need (6) 5/4 decking boards. I used a nail gun with ring shank nails on the underside frame and deck mate screws (3 1/2") on top side. coated wire and pulley that self tighens from the end. Sanded it off and it was ready for use. Using treated lumber will cure many other problems when in use outdoors. You can also seal the table but I thought it would be to slick. The dogs and grip the surface when not sealed.

I'm a state ADA contractor so I have treated lumber around all the time because we build so many wheelchair ramps.

HOpe this helps.

Ryan, I took two risers that a local church wanted to trash. I offered to haul them away at no charge. Got them home, split them in half, made legs from 4 X 4 landscape timbers... and bolted it all together with lag bolts! Just be creative! It is the final product that matters. BTW...my collar is held on with duct tape wrapped around the upright. If you only have a dog or two it is all you need. Sharon's system is nice if you have many dogs of different heights to work with.
