Just to add something new here...I entered 2 of my Britts in the San Diego Sporting Dog Club Shoot to Retrieve the Saturday before last. Scout finally had his day and won the event with a field of 20 dogs. Trip, his littermate, who has won 2 events previously, took second place. A good day for the boys.

The Pete Cunningham Puppy Classic is going to start 2/12/10 followed By Region 11 Amature Shooting Dog Championship and then the Region 11 Amature All Age Derby Classic. I will try to attend and have some fun.

Two days ago I was using my dogtra pheasant lanchers and they failed to lanch with the transmitter. I did recharge them and they worked.The problem being they did not hold a charge for very long. I called dogtra and they said the battery's should last from 3 to 5 years. I gave them my serial #s and they could not find them as their system only went back to 1996.They are looking in the old files and are going to let me know when they were made.I ordered new battery's and will have them working soon.I looked at different lanchers and decided that changing battery's and keeping them on hand and knowing if they were charged all the time would be a pain. After I thought about it a while I ordered 3 more dogtra units,this time the quail size. I wish the basket was a little larger to accomodate pigeons better, oh well.

I'm not a big fan of wine, but I'm sure there are a few on here that do.
It seems that the Casella Wines of Australia, owned by the Casella family and producer of Yellow Tail wine has joined up with the Humane Society of the United States and made a donation of 100,000.00 . The United States Sportsmen Alliance heard about this and would like the sporting community to be aware of this action and to send the message that we do not approve of their support of a group that wishes to outlaw hunting,fishing and trapping in this country. The U.S. importer of yellowtail is W.J. Deutsch &Sons LTD and we as sportsman should inform them that we will not purchase yellow tail.

IF IN A PROPOSED BREEDING, THE STUD OWNER CHOOSES A FEE RATHER THAN A PICK OF PUPPIES: 1. WHEN IS THE FEE NORMALLY PAID? 2. DOES THE MALE GO TO THE FEMALE'S KENNELS OR THE FEMALE GO TO THE MALE'S KENNEL, IS THERE A NORM OR WHATEVER THE OWNERS WORKOUT ? 3. WHAT TYPE AGREEMENT SHOULD BE MADE AS TO IF THE BREEDING ACTUALLY TAKES (OR NOT) REGARDING FEE.

end of season report

Pheasant season is officially over, how'd you do? I kept a log this year.
The first month of season was sensational,perfect weather, lots of birds, some great dog work, and my shooting hasn't been that good in a long time, maybe ever. the first 30days of season I hunted 21days, averaged 2 hrs. per day, and bagged 92 birds-42 roosters,46 quail, and 4 prairie chickens.
Then the 6th of Dec. we had a major snowstorm- hard to say how much snow, because it came with 30-40mph winds and just drifted everywhere. The roads were impassable, and you couldn't walk very good in drifts up to your waist. Had some of the coldest weather I've ever seen here- 18 days straight it never broke 0, 34 days it never broke 32. The Christmas blizzard buried us even deeper. Finally warmed up enough 3wks. ago to melt it all- then it was so muddy you couldn't get anywhere!
So between Dec. 6th and Jan.31st I only got to hunt 7 days, averaged 2.5hrs. per day, but only got 19 birds- 8 roosters, 10 quail, and 1 PC - its hard to sneak up on anything in the hard crunchy snow, when it sounds like your stomping on a bag of potato chips every step you take. And from what I saw the last few times out, the weather was hard on the bird numbers- the only thing that may have saved them is that there's still alot of standing crops for them to eat and the cover was really good this year.
So how did everybody else make out this year, was it good, bad or otherwise?
